TRG No. 65 Porsche in Podium Contention when Bad Luck Strikes

(Daytona Beach, Florida) -- In the No. 65 Riegel/Stanton /Cystic Fibrosis Foundation/65 Roses/Magnus Racing/Marquis Jet/Resorts International/IPC/Total Lubricants/RSS Road Sport Supply TRG Porsche GT3 John Potter, Bryce Miller, Craig Stanton, and Marco Holzer had an excellent mix of speed, veteran leadership, and youth ready to take on the high-banks of Daytona.

Looking back at the No. 65 team’s valiant effort, Team Owner Kevin Buckler had nothing but praise."These guys had a top-five car, no questions asked. This car had a top tier set of drivers, some of the best crew, and was set to do great things. Unfortunately, sometimes you just have to accept some bad racing luck. We plan on rebuilding the car to better-than-new condition and campaigning this car successfully throughout the 2009 season with our sights set on a Championship. It will be a good year for TRG and the Reigel/Stanton 65 car."

Previously, at the ‘Roar Before the 24’ test days, Bryce Miller turned some of the fastest and most consistent laps of the weekend. Bryce came into this weekend primed and ready to show why he won the 2007 Rolex GT Drivers Championship.

"The chemistry and ability amongst the crew and drivers is very good and these attributes were our most important assets going into the 24 hour race," stated Miller. "It was a grueling event. Sleep sometimes occurs, but your responsibility to rehydrate and replenish your body with proper nutrition comes first. Only then if you’ve found a quiet place and aren’t on deck for another driving stint will you be happy to organize all your gear and get a chance to lie down and rest a little. I have many small supplemental snacks and shakes which I try to ingest constantly throughout the event. It is important to keep your nutritional portions smaller but more constant given the physical demands of a 24 hour race. Many times you simply are not up to taking on a full meal depending on your fatigue and hydration levels."

John Potter has been racing with TRG since 2007 when he first competed with the team at the famous ‘Six Hours of the Glen’ at Watkins Glen International Raceway in upstate New York. John has raced everything from Mustangs to Mazdas to Porsches, which he currently favors. John is campaigning a full season of Rolex GT in a partnership with Riegel/Stanton and TRG in the No. 65 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup.

"It’s easy to see that if you want to race competitively in Rolex GT, TRG is the team to run with," stated the Utah-native Potter. "I think that their performance this year exemplifies that fact. I wish we would have been up on that podium – we certainly had the car and the drivers to get there – but that is just part of racing. Around 5 AM we took quite a big hit and I knew instantly that we were probably done for the race. It’s disappointing to have no control over something that happens to you like this. The TRG crew put so much hard work and dedication into this car, it was more of a let down to them than anyone else. I look forward to running the rest of the 2009 season alongside Craig in the Riegel/Stanton TRG Porsche."

Craig Stanton is the 2005 Rolex Series GT champion and is commonly referred to as ‘The Fittest Man in Motorsports’. He brings both his fitness and his veteran leadership to the 65 team.

"The TRG boys really prepared a great car for us," stated Californian Stanton. "The car was incredibly strong going into the test and it was even better off the truck for the race weekend. We had a car that was equal or better to any other car in the paddock thanks to the engineers and crew at TRG. Marco was doing awesome for it being his fist time at Daytona, as was John and Bryce. We had some throttle cable and alternator issues throughout the night, but when John was in the car around 5:00 AM ‘the cheese sort of fell off the chip!" A fellow competitor took us out of the race, which is always unfortunate, but its just a part of racing. I am optimistic about the remainder of the season and all the sponsors and partners are pleased with what they have seen so far, even if not ideal. We are going to forge ahead and look forward to great things throughout the 2009 season."

Marco Holzer, a young and incredibly talented driver from the Porsche factory – the youngest ever in fact, brought incredible enthusiasm, professionalism and talent.

"The car was great from when we first rolled off the truck. The engineers here at TRG set the car up very well and it was very enjoyable to drive. This was my first time at Daytona, so the high speeds and banking are a little tricky. I didn’t let it get to me and I plan on coming back to Daytona many times in the future."
