(March 3, 2007) -- U.S. born racer Bryce Miller was absolutely ecstatic when arriving last week south of the border in Mexico City. “When I got off the plane, I immediately knew this was going to be a good weekend.” The Marquis Jet, IPC racing machine would go on to score a 4th place finish before a boisterous crowd of 40,000 this past Saturday, March 3rd.
Miller paired with German, Dirk Werner in only their first race together as co-drivers. The lineup is recognized as a considerable threat in what remains to be 11 races in the Rolex GT Championship. Miller successfully overcame several challenges in only his second Rolex GT Championship race. Taking over for his teammate at the halfway point, the #87 FarnbacherLoles Porsche was struck by complication. Before leaving pit lane, a problem with the right rear wheel erased the team’s second place advantage.
Miller seemingly blocked out any frustration from the prolonged pit stop by immediately getting up to speed. He cracked the 1:31:000 time barrier on his first ‘out lap’ – a feat matched only by Tafel Racing Porsche driver Wolf Henzler - and clocked in even faster on his second lap at 1:30:540. “The team provided us with a great car today and it’s especially rewarding when you know everyone’s hard work has paid off.”
Miller battled progressively deteriorating tires for the remainder of the race, but refused any dashing of team hopes for a top five finish. “The changing of the tires’ characteristics is so immense over a stint that it requires a great deal of focus and patience. Dirk Werner is certainly good company to be in and I’m just happy we’ve gotten off to such a great start.
Miller will return to native soil on March 24th for the Homestead-Miami Speedway race. With a fourth place finish under his belt, Bryce’s post-race remarks reflected optimism for a championship challenge, “We have a strong team of highly skilled individuals and all the support necessary to really go after this Championship.”
