Farnbacher Loles Mexican Fiesta

Dated: April 16, 2007

ImageFarnbacher Loles Racing enjoyed an exciting weekend in Mexico City with a strong Rolex GT performance finishing second and fourth at the 2.5 mile Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Dominik Farnbacher and Leh Keen co-drove their no. 85 Shoes For Crews/Recaro Porsche GT3 Cup to second place, after starting in the second spot on the grid. Leh Keen drove the opening stint and took the lead on the first lap of the race. When his tires started to go away, the pole-winning Mazda RX-8 was able to reel him in and eventually get past. Dominik drove the second half of the race and was able to keep pace with the more powerful Mazda, securing the team’s first 2007 podium finish.

The no. 87 Marquis Jet/IPC/Recaro Porsche 997 GT3 Cup driven by Dirk Werner and Bryce Miller finished in fourth place, which is all the more impressive considering, they started from last place. After posting the third fastest lap in qualifying, the 87 was cited with a technical infraction forcing the car to the rear of the field for the start. Dirk Werner drove the opening half and immediately made his presence known, passing seven cars in the first lap and eventually getting up to third. Bryce took over and with a great drive held the third spot until the second RX-8 was able to finally get past.

After the race, team owner Gregory Loles was clearly pleased. “Coming out of Daytona, we knew that our championship chase would really begin in Mexico. This was a great result and I’m very proud of this team and these four very talented drivers. Everyone worked hard this weekend and it showed. We leave here in the thick of the championship battle.” Added Technical Director Horst Farnbacher, “The drivers each drove very well and did a good job. We were able to get the setup sorted out early so then it was just a matter of practice. The Mazdas will be tough this year but with the team and drivers we have, I think we will be able to race for the championship.”
